Surprised you didnt move it topher!

Anniverary's are unpredictable on price. Put it this way have seen them go for more than that and have been with Billy when he bought a better one than that for less!

Better off getting a good late 16v with all the goodies for around 1500/1800 quid.

My missus has just traded her MK3 GTi in for an MX5 (I know I know) things to look out for are

MAF can pack up without warning
Rust in the corners of the front wing where the side skirts meet the arch guards
Exhaust can be pricey, she repalced heres and it cost £150 trade

Can't think of much else at the mo.

My previous car was a MK3 GTI. Great car, covered 60,000 miles in it (130,000 when I Sold it) They have funny querks but I work on my own cars and so fixed it myself. Rear Discs can be an absolute pain to replace, but overall easy to work on. They ain't quick and handle like jelly but there's something about it, feels solid. Having said that, I wouldn't pay that money for another one, but the 16v engine is not as reliable as the 8v. Watch out for rusty water hoses, rust around the rear window and side windows (5 doors are better than 3 in that respect)

Oh, dodgy relays can affect the fuel pump, so watch out for cutting out and the dealer not knowing how to fix!!

Nice car.... but I don't miss it now I have my Mk5!

Not reliable?

I suggest you take a look in the Mk3 section mate and you will see that the 8v has more problems than the 16v.

he specialises in restoring and i think hes done a very good job on it. even to re powdercoat the alloys. Upholstery looks spotless but its an 8 valve, which i would guess being the mk 3 is much heavier then the mk 2, goes as quick as my Granma in her zima  :smug:

And no, not yet interested in getting an ed 30, having too much fun in my current one, and also im getting married on the 9th of june, would think id be handed a divorce if i sold the car for the sake of some red stitching, pimply gearstick, and not too much difference in performance and more importantly costing me about £8000 to get same spec.
