squealing

when my mk3 is in 2nd gear and i let it run (no acceleration / braking what so ever) it lets out a sort of muffed squealing sound and seems to make the car jump a bit. i used to have a clio and had the same problem, but it happened in 3rd gear even when i accelerated and it turned out that the gear box was f*cked. i'm guessing this isn't the same since i recently had a MoT and service so maybe they would have seen if my gearbox was going?

anyway does anyone have any ideas? thanks

Not really mate as they dont use X-ray machines!

Most gearboxes whine. change the oil and see if that helps.

MOT doesn't cover anything to do with the gearbox, and usually a service doesn't include gearbox so best bet is to change the gearbox oil and see if that does anything
