My new GTI
« on: 10 May 2007, 23:28 »
Hi all,

Took delivery of my new MKV GTI last monday.

Great car, its black 3dr, athracite leather, xenons... 'euro' plates are special orders for us in Aus so I ordered black euro plates, they look awesome.

First impressions of the car... Fantastic! At first I though the exhuast note and induction noises were a little sedate in comparison to the GTI's I test drove. However after putting 900km's on it in the first week of ownership she started to come to life.

At the 900Km point I decided that I had run it in enough (the manual says 1000km's but its close enough) and took her for her first hot run through the local national park (lots of twisties).

Tearing through the park on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon (about 20degrees celcius - its coming in to winter) with my drivers window down and the car at full scream was an awesome experience... What really wins me over is the exhaust note, its so refined yet sends the right message - and the turbo spool and slight hint wastegate blowback is just delightful!!

Cornering in the GTI defies logic for an FF car!!! It just cant be unstuck and the ESP feels like its really working with you to achieve maximum fun factor instead of being a lifeless wet blanket...

The seats are supportive and the ride comfort is rediculous with suspension absorbing all the $hit our aussie roads can throw at it (lots - trust me)

There are a few little things which are niggling at me like some slight vibrations and rattles in the doors when u crank the stereo (its booked in to be looked at next mon) and I wish both reverse lights came on but they are easily overlooked by the cars fun factor!

All in all as a Veedub virgin im pretty happy so far!!! :)) I'll post some pics soon!

Owen.
