took my golf for a service
« on: 09 May 2007, 18:00 »
today i took my golf for a 40000 service iv only just got the car, it had full history, full mot. but for my own peace of mind i thought id get it looked over
i booked it in to the vw dealer in my area ( only 2 to choose from)
after 2 and a bit hours of sitting and waiting thay came up with the bad news
item                    hours              labour              part cost               total
anti freeze             .50                34.00               11.14                   45.14
heated mirrors x2    .30                20.40               57.81                   78.21
rear washer           .70                47.60                4.20                    51.80
tie rods               2.10              142.30             138.68                   281.48
cntr silencer          .70                47.60               78.79                  126.39
axle bushes          4.00              272.00               36.60                  308.60
fr disk & pads        1.30              88.40               120.50                  208.90
rr disk & pads        1.30              88.40                 72.20                  160.60

so you can imagine just how i felt. i told them thanks but no as the car was under warrenty
i headed back to where i got it from steam comeing out my ears.
by the time i got there i was quite carm and ready for whot ever thay had to say why thay couldnt do it as it wasnt covered.
the fella looked a bit shocked as i told him so he wanted to see the car.
he looked at me and said
"you dont have heated mirrors"
he tryed the rear washer . you can hear the motor but no water comes out . he looked around a puddle at the front " your pipes come off"
he then looked at the wheels "the disks are a bit worn but look fine and there brand new pads"
the other items he said he couldnt look at with out getting the car up.
we arranged a day to get it in but told me all the other things would of failed a mot and looked puzzled as the mot was only done 3weeks ago

so was the vw garage trying to get a extra £1100 plus the vat out of me or has the car started to fall apart after 3 weeks

i know whot 1 i think it is
any one know of a good place to get a mk4 1.8t serviced around the northamptonshire cambs beds area?

to have that much wrong with it after such a short period of time after buying it, either they are trying to have you on or someone has tampered with the car before sale  but i would take it somewhere else and get a third opinion and see what the general result is

That is absolutely fookin re-d1ck-u-larse ! They aint called stealers for nothing. I'd now take it back to the VW and say that a) I aint got heated mirrors and b) I don't need a new washer as the pipe had simply come off and surely a dealerships mechanics should have seen that, I'd then ask them to explain themselves as it's just passed it's MOT, there's no problem with the pads and put them on the spot, I'd then say I'm not happy about this as it's tantamount (sp?) to stealing and I'm going to take this further and speak to VW's head office.
......now officially dubless.

That's appauling. If it was me i'd be writing to the dealer principle.

300 for bushes? almost an hour to pop a washer pipe back on.. and not noticing you don't actually have heated mirrors.. well.. speaks for itself.

i might just send vw head office a letter.
i allways think that you pay a bit more to go to a dealer but if you want your car looked after by people who know whot there doing its worth it.

I took my first MK2 to the local dealer and although they were realy nice and willing to help they were fooking useless when it came to fixing the problem
