GTI vs GTI Ed30: change in size

200kg  :embarassed: how much does a normal gti weigh ? the ed30 is 1357kg  or 1376kg with a DSG

i think you'll find its the R32 thats 200kg heavier, not the ED30. (haldex, prop, diff etc.)

The Ed30 is about 200kg heavier than the GTI though.
It depends which gearbox you have.  Probably the weight of the uprated turbo 

I gather you have been looking at the back of the brochure, where it is commonly known that there is a typo with the weights. The ed 30 is 30kg heavier than the equivalent GTI, so I guess that could be a combination of heavy stitching and my big ego

Yup... back of the brochure - and I was unaware of it being a misprint!  It just so happened the brochure was sitting on my chair!

It says:
GTI Manual unladen weight = 1336
GTI Ed30 Manual unladen weight = 1528
GTI DSG unladen weight = 1355
GTI Ed30 DSG unladen weight = 1547
(both are approx 200kg    )

Weight gain or no weight gain, my Edition 30 is finally loosening up and its a revelation.  Still not as good as a daily drive as my R32 and the engine can never match the R32 engine but its got an extra shove after 4000rpm that wasn't there initially - and its more than just a shove, its a full on-rush of speed a bit similar to the Mk2 16v but in a completely different league.  It also sounds quite good when pushed, but smooth when driving normally.  All in all its the ideal weekend car - which is what I bought it for.  Shame mine is going to the dealers tomorrow - some mug is going to pay £3k more probably than I would have sold it for.  I'll have another in October though - exactly the same but with DSG.  I was going to save money and go down the broker route but I can't seem to get the same kind of savings as I was being offered 3 weeks ago - broadspeed and the others seem to have increased their prices by £500 so I might as well go to the dealer.

How come you reckon it's not as good as the R32? Currently debating the merits of R32 vs Ed30, so very interested to hear your thoughts.

You getting rid already, surely you've only just sold the R32 (if it was a 56 reg)?  I noticed the brokers discounts reducing by quite a bit, Broadspeed only offering £500 now I think.

All in all its the ideal weekend car - which is what I bought it for. 

Illyun - what do you have as a daily driver then - some lardy arse 4x4???  A caterham / radical / classic is a weekend car - IMO the golf is a great week day car.

I've noticed exactly the same with mine; i'm surprised at how the car happily accepts a heavily planted right foot as well as some "sunday driver" style driving.  Would be interested on your views about the difference in handling between the ed30 and r32.
