Hi! Newbie here.
« on: 09 May 2007, 00:19 »
Hi everyone, I recently got myself a mk2 GTi 16v off eBay for 250 quid, im sure some of you saw it on there. It was looking a bit sorry for itself:

When I went to pick it up he said it had been stood for 10 months, either way it started 1st turn of the key and the bodywork is really straight although the paint was faded badly. A few hours with the angle grinder with a compounding pad and a tub of G3 rubbing compound got it looking like this:

I'm really pleased with it and have got a lot of service parts coming for it in order to get it ready for the MOT.

I also fitted some crystal clear headlamps today so I'll get some pictures of them tomorrow with any luck.

I must admit, after owning a hoard of Fords - Escort GTi's, Fiesta XR2/2i's i'm quite happy to have a proper hot hatch and am lookng forward to getting to know people from the VW world!

Hope you like!

Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy, welcome to the site

quite a transformation there and certainly looks like a bargain now!

I switched to VW's after several years of fast fords and have never looked back (although still have a soft spot for some!)

Martin

Thanks guys, I really love the Golf, getting insured on it is a bit of a pain though. Im only 20 with 1 years NCB.

Martin I've still got a Ford  A mk2 Fiesta that I am converting to a 2.0 Zetec. Ford's will always be in my blood but I cant help but love VW's.

Cheers,
Andy

Yeah I just read in the insurance section you work for HIC? I got an online quote before from HIC but it came back as we cannot insure you for this vehicle or something along those lines

Well if you could do anything that would be great, Im not even bothered about paying 1200 quid, its just the deposit thats a killer.

As for the RS1600i, I'm quite jealous you had one, I absolutely love mk3 RS'

ignore the online quotes, may still be able to do summat (providing you had full licence over 1yr).......

did you put the reg in on your quote? if so i will get it off the pics, use it to load your file and have a look!

Yes mate, Ive had my licence for just over 3 years and have 1 years NCB. I put the reg in and filled all the details. Would it be possible for you to drag up the details and possibly give me a ring when you get chance then?

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks mate, look forward to seeing if you can get me an affordable quote. If my mobile number is on there it should end in 242, feel free to ring that or my house phone - ending in 792.

Andy
