MK3 deadlock problems!
« on: 06 May 2007, 00:17 »
Sorry to bore you with this no doubt common problem.  But I need help, pleassssse. Every time I lock my car with the key the deadlock is activating, which means I can't get in or out of my car through the drivers side. The passenger side and boot is ok just not the drivers. Is there any way of deactivating this? ANY advice at all is very very welcome.

hi debs, not sure what you mean by deadlock? well I guess its obvious that you can't get in through the drivers side.

do you have central locking?

i'm guessing it could be the hook for the handle has come away, or the lock unit is broken, which in that case a replacment is needed.

Thanks for your reply.

Well being female I duno really, that's what i've been told it is by the guy I bought it off. He said if when locking the car I held the key for too long (can close windows with the key) it would confuse the system and this would happen, so I would need to unlock, lock, unlock, wait 20 seconds then lock & it would reset, but it just happens all the time now, however I lock it. (does that make sense?!  :undecided:)

I have got cenral locking n I was just hoping this could be something I could just get disconnected & carry on my merry way.

Frustrated Debs

hi sorry to say as far as i know the deadlock can't be turned off

just to make sure when you mean dead lock when you lock the door with the key and try to pull the lock open from the inside it should pull it self shut again and you should be able to hear the central locking pump kick in,

what to test it is sit in the drivers seat with the window open fully and use you key to lock the doors from the outside (just don't close the windows with the key in the door or you might get stuck inside the car LOL) pull the key out the door handle and wait for about 2minz the deadlock should kick in so when you try to open the lock it should close, at this stage put you key in the igntion and turn it on this should turn the deadlock off and the door should open if it dosn't you probilly have a clock problem on that door

hope that help let us know how it works out
