My GTI!
« on: 05 May 2007, 20:51 »
Finally i have got my GTI! When i got home from picking it up last wednesday i noticed a crack/split in the windscreen and the 6cd changer wasnt working! Took it down the stealer today and they will replace the windscreen and fix the 6cd changer! Was very nice about it - great service and best of all free of charge! Here are some pictures!

How big is the accelerator!!

I need to get some wax/polish as black is a b*tch to clean! So if you have any recommendations on what to get i would appreciate it!

Great choice of colour

Personally, I use Meguar's products, but others such as Autoglym, Zymol and Swissol are quality products. Depends on what you want and how fastidious you are. Don't just settle for a polish, get a clay bar, paint cleaner, polish and rich wax to protect the paintwork and keep the car looking great.

Washing and drying are critical to avoiding scratches and swirl marks, especially for dark metallic colours - use the 2 bucket method, some very good tips here:

Got any pics of the windscreen fault - mine appears to be delaminating at upper/lower offside corners - appears as a small grey line which is getting bigger

Enjoy.

Hey Cass

According to the guys at VWVortex that greyish line at the bottom of the windscreen is a common fault. TT will probably be able to explain better why the line is there but I believe it has something to do with the windscreen and a sort of plastic film that pulls apart. (However I stand to be corrected).

VW should replace the windsreen free of charge though
Do you have any pics of the windscreen Cass & JamesT?

Cheers

Nice looking car.  Similar to mine abeit the 18" monzas and dsg.

I have tried a few polishes/ waxes.  The pic below is from using Zymol.  However, IMO the beading doesn't last long.  I have now put a layer of Muguiars Gold Class Liquid Wax just to see if it is any better.

I noticed a sticker in the back window, Heritage of Bristol.  Just out of interest, is this where you got your car from?.
