Sunroof problems
« on: 04 May 2007, 11:45 »
My car spent the last few months in my shed, and was only brought out on a regular basis to keep it running. But when I brought it out, I never opened the sunroof. And now that she'll be back out for the summer again, I've found that the sunroof won't open. I don't want to force the winder too much, but I can do nearly a full rotation with it before it starts to struggle and won't push anymore. If I push harder I might snap something.

Someone, please help!!!

well this is a guide to how to remove the sunroof

but not sure if it'll help, try looking at what the sunroof is doing when you wind it back. it should obviously drop down and then slide back so make sure its doing that. they are a pretty basic set up with just a sort of spring type cable that fits into the winder gear. not sure why it would be jamming like that but i don't think it'd be a quick fix i'm afriad.

Yea will be the winder rods, like springs as joes says.

If you can move it so far then liberal sprays with WD40 in all the likely places. Trouble is these like winders are hidden inside tubes so not much access to them.
Like my other car in the end it usually comes down to replacement!

I had problems with my sunroof on my recent purchase. The rear of the sunroof was lower than the front, I conceeded and bought a Haynes manual which explained how to take it apart and put it back together again.

My problem was a two fold, a rusted support arm on the front wind deflector which wasn't a problem opening, just shutting - which I replaced. The second problem I discovered after part opening the roof, was that a nut and bolt had come undone on the height adjustment part and thrown it out of sink.  My roof did open, it just went back slowly at an angle.  When it came to the replacement support arm I went to a breakers yard, and couldn't open the roof of the donor car, so the guy with just his fist clenched started to open the roof with the handle, and thumped the rear part of the panel a few times to loosen it and it popped open.  A bit of brute force worked in that scenario.

The cause may be that it is just stuck around the seal and needs assistance, or it could be more serious.
Hopefully it is just stuck.
