Why are these bits on my alloys ?
« on: 02 May 2007, 09:33 »
I know this question sounds stupid but here goes....

on the 2 front alloys on my MK3 (standard 15" alloys) they both have those lumps of metal for balancing (on the alloys hub) BUT the rears dont.

As I have been looking at other peoples cars with alloys (even other Mk3s) none of them have this, do you reckon my alloys have been bumped or bashed by a previous owner and thats why they needed this - to balance them again ?

I know its done on steel rims but havent seen it on alloys before, BTW it looks s***e

I think he's trying to say the balance weight's are clamped on the rim???? which is quite normal...the rear's could have stick on weight's which are fitted to the inside/back of the wheel and look much better. I think only good quality tyre places use these sticky weights as they are more expensive so i'm told!!!

Cheers guys, so very likely someone has gone the cheap route and had them put on the outside.

As said before they look crap, will find a decent tyre place I think and have them replaced.

I cant beleive people would have stuff like that fitted, imagine you spend a few hundred on new alloys them someone fitted them on !

I have always found swearing on a building site is mandatory, e.g. the word f*** is used as verb, noun, adjective etc
