Tyre recommendations
« on: 01 May 2007, 20:30 »
I'm coming up fast to needing a new set of tyres (rears deffo).

I've currently got Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front and Michelin MXM's on the rear (came on the car)

The Goodyears are excellent, but are quite pricey.  As the car is front wheel drive will I actually benefit from putting F1's on the rears too?  Or is it much better to have the same model all round, so the front and rear of the car has the same grip?
 :undecided:
Any recommendations/experience on other tyres that run well on a PD150 are also welcome.

if you're happy with them then stick with the Goodyears.  Ideally you want to have the same model all round or at worst the same brand.

the way i see it is the tyres are the only point of contact between your car and the road and is something i wouldn't scrimp on.

have you tried places like www.mytyres.co.uk and getting your local tyre centre to fit them?

i've got maragoni mythos all round and i must admit i'm quite surprised how good they are, but i only got these cos they were free with my wheels, but they ain't lasted long had them less than a year(bout 9 months!!) and i will be ready for 2 tyres in the next month or 2.
i'm going for some michelin pilots next i think, my mates just had them on his st mondeo and raves about them.

i found www.etyres.co.uk the cheapest on the net and they include mobile fitting

Thanks for the info guys.

When I just went to go and check the make of the rear's, I noticed I have more tread on the fronts than I thought.  So that's saved me half the money

Just looking at the sites now, mytyres are about £10 a corner cheaper that etyres, but fitting near me is about that.

Think I might get them from etryes if they'll come to my work and fit them, don't fancy waiting around at home on my time
arnoldlog1, have you used etyres? Service any good?

Yeah the price on etyres aint too bad.

I've had no problems with them at all, only a couple of scary moments with Traction Control turned off in the wet.  But to be fair i think any tyre would do the same.  I think I read somewhere that recent models have been improved to reduce aqua planing further.

...also the tread looks wikid.

Just found a review in a subsection of etyres: http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-tests?term=goodyear-eagle-f1-gs-d3
