Sorry about the wait. :embarassed:

Here are the piccies of the reverse camera

The first view is with the camera at around 2 foot from the ground. The second is a close up at less than a foot away . it may look big, but it isn't

Yeah...The wife's idea to use the old carpet from the living room at one end of the garage so she doesn't get her feet cold when doing the washing/getting stuff out of the fridges etc. :embarassed:

It looks HUUUUGEEEE!!!!  Hows the pic on the screen?  Does it save you hitting stuff?!  Can you view it when you're driving normally - cause it'd be pretty cool seeing how close cars were behind you at the lights etc!
My gf's dad has a Merc ML63 and it has the camera hidden up where the lights for your numberplate is.  You cant see it unless you really look for it.

I'm still undecided about which stereo I'm gonna get, but if it has a screen I quite fancy one of these bad boys!

Peeps,
The camera is tiny. It's about 2cm long and just over 1cm in diameter. The camera on the screen is excellent and it even senses when there is low light conditions and turns to black and white and looks like a night vision camera
The camera is linked up into the reverse light and comes on and goes off automatically when reverse is detected, so you cannot use it when travelling forward.
It definitely takes a week or so to get used to, but it does stop you hitting objects and makes parking up to objects easy. You can also see kiddies and narrow poles which a reverse detector may or may not see.
The lens is a "fisheye" lens and gives you a wider rear view than you would normally get from a normal camera.  The screen is also a mirror view of what is behind you...so left is left and right is right. On some camera's the opposite applies, but the way I have it is the most natural.
I thought about having the camera above the reg plate, but it would have meant drilling through the bumper and taking the bumper off to fit it. I was shown one like this and it was more noticable than where I decided to have it located.

Definately sounds like a good idea... but depends on which stereo I get!  I am seriously considering the Alpine iDA-X001 iPod controller - which is single DIN and doesnt have a suitable screen.
I've always considered myself to be a pretty good reverse parker... but I suppose this would let you get in even smaller spaces!

p3eps, I'm also considering the new Alpine iDA-X001 headunit. I've been following an interesting thread on the AV Forums site http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=468557. Useful if you want the views of some Alpine owners. Question is, do I upgrade the speakers at the same time? I'm also looking for a good, reliable installer in the East Midlands.

Booked mine in to have the speaker system done next Wednesday. See the "Hertz speakers" thread in the audio section. Source sounds are based in Sheffield and have already fitted my Kenwood head unit. They may not be close enough to you, but they are good.

Thanks Hurdy - might be a little too far north for me! I'm looking more Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton. But it's a start...
