Servicing clock not reset on new car (import)
« on: 01 May 2007, 14:51 »
Hey Guys,

I've had my new Gti for 6 weeks now and loving every minute of it  :smug:

Its just covered 1000 miles. When checking the service status it tells me it needs a service in 9600 miles or 240 days. Is there anyway for me to get back the 80 ish days I've lost?

Also as its on variable servicing does it need a service every 12 or 24 months if the mileage doesn't trigger the service light?

Thanks in advance!

Stuart

Would this just reset the days to 365 or also make the car think it has new oil in it? I don't want to risk causing wear by running oil that is too old/used.

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your new tool!

You could, but that would be a lot of fafing about, and the monkey at the stealer would simply get confused with their maths!

Also as its on variable servicing does it need a service every 12 or 24 months if the mileage doesn't trigger the service light?

You are certainly NOT on LongLife, and certainly shouldn't be either!

If you were on LongLife, the service display would show something like "19,000 miles" or "688 days".

The fact that you seem to have lost 80 days, probably stems from the fact that the PDI was carried out 11 weeks before delivery.  Look in your service book and check the date of the PDI.  :nerd:

It would simply reset the display to 365 days, and 10,000 miles - and disable the oil quality sensor.

Thanks for the info, strange that its on fixed, the sticker in the boot states QG1 (which I think I remember reading is variable)

As an easy way to get my 80 days back would it be recommended to reset the service counter and just take it in 1 year from new/10k? Otherwise I'll probably end up driving around with the service light on for 1-2 months as I only do 10k per annum.

I would check the service book but I'm still waiting for an english one

Ahhh, you mis-understand.  The PR code QG1 simply means that the car is "capable" of the variable LongLife servicing.  The "actual" servicing regime is only set when the supplying stealer performs the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI).

Nah, just leave it as it is.  As long as you remember to get it serviced at 10,000 miles, or 12 months from date of delivery/registration, you should be fine.  You will find you are allowed a period of "grace" of 1 month or 1,000 miles after the SID states that it is due.  If you wanted to be sure of covering your back, get the first service done after 11 months, and then get the next one done after 13 months, and it should even out.

I would check the service book but I'm still waiting for an english one

That seems to be a big issue with imports!

What else do you want to know?
