Trip Up North
« on: 30 April 2007, 16:15 »
After a trip to the North Yorkshire Dales last weekend,to blast the motor along the Butter Tubs pass,

The butter Tubs, Yawn.

Then the highest Pub  in England, The Tan Hill .

In the car park, is a permenent reminder of how bad things get in the winter.

View from the car park

After the 800 mile round trip, I thought the old Girl could do with a good scrub up, so off came the wheels, and out came the caliper cleaner, Not sure I have enough cleaner though, as their the size of lorry stoppers.

Before.

After...

Nice to know the OE is top notch.

Anyway all bad to normal now.

I think you'll find they all go like that with alloys - due to galvanic (dissimilar metal) corrosion.  :nerd:

Look at each end of your driveshafts, and the CV joints will also be rusty.  Regarding the rusty hub centres, if left unattended, the alloy wheels can actually become nigh-on seized to the hub, and require some serious "tickling" ( ) with a big dead-blow hammer.  Whenever I get a new motor, I always remove the wheels, de-rust the hub centres, and apply a thin smear of nickel (not copper) anti-seize paste, and the rust never returns.  :nerd:
