Whats the Best Fuel for my GTI?

GTI engine is configured to run on 98RON I believe therefore you need fuels such as Shell V-Power, Tesco 99RON or BP Ultimate.

Do they still have the rubber tubes you drive over, and a bell rings in a wooden hut, and then a man appears in a brown dustcoat and flat cap, and fills it up for you . . . . .   

He only asks Girlie as they are now called 'Independent Motor Vehicle Technician (ret'd)'. Some still keep aforementioned cap in their cars, along with the jacket....

Actually the EVO review showed BP ultimate 97 in the golf GTi gave an increase of 15 bhp and XX torque (forgot sorry!) only marginally worse than tesco 99 but better than optimax, I filled up other week with ultimate and am getting 3+ mpg better and definatley crisper throttle reponse, so the extra p / litre is not so bad considering your getting 30+ miles extra from a tank. ultimate 99.9p Leeds

Hmmmmm - don't suppose you have a linky to that?  I'm always cautious of any "tests" done by magazines which clearly get their revenue from advertising.  What about the fact that Optimax is obsolete!  Unless you know that there was a "control" to the test, and the environmental conditions were identical, then any published review like that would be flawed.

IMHO, I consider BP Ultimate to be the most over-hyped, and overtly expensive of all the super unleadeds, and useage in either my RS4 or the GTI seem to prove that!

think the test was done at the back end of 2005 / beginning of 2006 so before Optimax was made obsolete 

check out www.evo.co.uk and look for the test

How much is Ultimate in your neck of the woods then?  Where I am, it is usually about 6-8p more than V-Power - about 102-104 ppl ATM.
