Newbie!!! Need some advice about my mk3 golf!
« on: 27 April 2007, 16:50 »
Hi there people. Right ive just purchased a mk 3 golf, and ive wanted to purchase GTI bumpers to put on there. But when ive been looking around i cant tell no differences from the gti bumpers from my standard ones, only that there colour coded.
Can anybody help me and tell what the diffrences are, if any.

cheers

Hi mate,

Welcome to the forum. There aren't that many major differences on the mk3 golf front/rear bumpers, as far as I know:

Fully black textured
Colour coded with black textured top sections
Fully colour coded

That's about it as far as the actual bumper goes, some people smooth their bumpers so start with what ever they've got.

HTH, Garfay.

My bumpers on my Mk3 CL are black textured, too.

So to make it more like the GTI, you'd probably either paint the whole thing or just the bottom bit.
Tempted to do this myself, only a can or two of paint from Halfrauds.

before spraying the textured section, you need to smooth with some flexible filler or high build primer.

HARDCOR3 done this guide ages ago, unfortunatley the pictures don't work anymore, but it will give you an idea about prep'ing, you can ignore the stuff about filling in foglight holes and swage lines if you want to keep them:
