Shock absorber help please
« on: 27 April 2007, 01:23 »
I painted my front Boge gas shocks with a lick of Hamerite because they were starting to get
a bit rusty, but now that I've taken the car off the axle stands and dropped the car to the
floor the car looks slammed at the front, (Starsky & Hutch stylee) :embarassed:

I did turn the shocks round a few times to paint round the other side of them, so is this the
cause? as I remember having to activate them when I first bought them (Twist & push down once
for the full stroke of the rod). If so how do I return them back to their former glory?.

They were fine before painting them, no leaks, and bounced back up no problem. And I didn't
get paint on the rod as I didn't paint above where the coil sits in the cup.

Thanks in advance.

Really? Are they Boge Turbo?

I never did this when putting mine on, didn't know you had to! Could explain why the ride is so firm.

Yup, Boge Gas Turbo. They came packaged with a strap wrapped round the top of the rod and the bottom of the strut, instructions on the box says to cut the strap, twist round once and push the rod down the full length of the rod to get rid of any crap.

Hmmm, I'm sure the car is lower, but I had it on axle stands for 3 weeks till now. So is it just my imagination me thinks  :undecided:
