MFA, Rev counter probs

Basically my mk2 8v GTI has just come back from having its MOT and a couple of jobs done by a local VW specialist. The problem is that before it went there the rev counter, and MFA were both working and since getting the car back they are not working any more. I know that to rectify this I will probably have to change the clocks. My question is this "Is it just coincidence that the MFA and rev counter stopped working whilst the car was at the garage. Or could they have done something to cause this?". Work performed was mainly brake related, so well away from the dashboard. Any opinions or advice greatfully received. cheers!

They may have dissconected the battery to do some of the work which means you'll have to pull out the correct fuse and then just put it back and all should be well, what fuse it is depends on what year your car is but I just started at one end of the fuse board and pulled them out and put them back one at a time untill the rev counter and MFA started working again.

Mine is at No16 from the left, should be a blue 15A, but check the back of the fuse cover for details

Its not a fuse issue, ive tried removing and re-inserting it after waiting a while ,with no improvement.

If the fuse didn't blow, it must be the clocks them selves 'cause they don't have relays  :cry: last resort, try leaving the fuse out for a few days, worked for me! It seems if you jump start your or other vehicles or otherwise muck around with the battery this can happen! best of luck

have you tried resetting the mfa i have some instructions in how to do this if you would like me to post them

This very same thing happened to me last night after changing the battery!

To fix it, start the engine, pull the fuse out and then put it back in.

On mine it was fuse 21.

Cheers for all the replies guys. I tried pulling a few of the potential fuses out and putting them back in again with no luck. However, turning the engine on and then pulling out fuse 21 and pushing it back in (as suggested) brought the mfa and rev counter back to life  :grin: . Water/engine temp gauge does not work but it hasnt since I got it. Thanks again, saved me time and money not having to buy new clocks (as garage suggested).
