Has anyone had any experiences with the Harman Kardon drive + play 2?
Quitre pricey but looks to do the job if you can hide the screen somewhere nice, and with all that wireless stuff I guess there will be batterries to consider also.

Maybe worth a closer look

I have a HK drive and play in my GTi (version 1).  Works very well.  Easy to use and does not look out of place with all the wires hidden away.  The controller sits by the gear lever, the screen sits on the dash to the right of the instruments and the ipod in the small cubby hole on the drivers side.  The control unit lives in the area behind the light switch with power connections straight to the fuse box.  All stuck on so can be removed with no marks.  I got a new one from ebay for about £50 - with the v2 out soon those prices are sure to drop.  You can also plug other things into it as well as the ipod via the AUX in socket.  Looks like the v2 may be a bit too distracting!

The downsides for me were/are:

1. If you want to use the FM connection, the aerial adaptor to connect to the back of the stereo is a standard connector so adaptors would be required.  I bought an AUX input adaptor to plug the line out from the drive and play into the CD changer socket on the head unit so ignoring the FM interface altogether.  Another £30 (again ebay #120111734218).

2. You have the screen on the dash - a target for thieves maybe (esp. the shiny v2) what with sat navs being stolen.  I supposed it could be mounted somewhere else but I didn't want to start chopping bits of dash.

3. The ring around the outside of the controller does not rotate.  It only moves 1/4 of a turn and springs back (v1 anyway).  To scroll down lists you hold the ring at the 1/4 turn position rather than rotating it like an ipod wheel.  You can adjust the scroll rate in the drive & play settings.

Cheers

Hi Farina

Is there any chance that you could maybe post a couple of pics of the install, just so we can see how it all looks in place?

I wonder would you be able to hide the screen in the ashtray or a similar place!
Its not as if you are looking at it all the time, only when you are changing albums etc
