Ipod Connectivity
« on: 25 April 2007, 14:18 »
What is the best option for hooking up an Ipod or similar MP3 player to your standard single disk CD head unit?
Is there any interfaces that will interact fully with the Ipod and display track names etc on the display?

cheers

there is no interface that will show track names and info on the standard VW head unit.  all you can do it hook it up so it will play songs from 6 pre programmed playlists or the whole library.

you would have to buy a new head unit if you wanted that to see track names etc.  do a search for ipod in these forums as this has been covered recently.

Get yourself one of these:
http://www.audio66.co.uk/product.asp?id=5592&cat=26&man=1&main=1&userid=&firstsel=cat&variation=

It works exactly the same as your iPod - the only problem is that it doesnt have a CD player!  I pre-ordered one at the start of Feb when the advert said 'due end of Feb'... but it keeps changing Feb, March, April, and now its May!  I actually wonder if it will EVER come out!!!  I have my Canbus adapter and Golf face plate ready for when it does though!

Alternatively you could try one of these. I had one in my last MKV and although you still use the IPOD for controlling everything except the sound, at least you know you still have full control

thats only a single DIN, wont it look a little out of place in MkV dash?

Yeah as above
Im not keen on installing an aftermarket setreo that will look out of place in the MkV's dash.
I may just have to compromise with one of those ice link things.

Im just going to get one of those Fm transmitters. Far easier and not bad quality. No wires to take care of either and no messing around.

Yes I used an FM transmiter (I-Trip) in my daily drive VW Polo and one minute it was great and clear and then the next it was crap and I ended up getting fed up with it!

Not a great product! I also agree tho that aftermarket head units look crap and really mess up the clean styling in a nicely finished car like the golf!
