16v conversion is pretty straight forward, 2 major stumbling blocks:
Exhaust manifold & downpipe:
Since the only A1 16v was the rocco 16v, OEM items are hard to find & expensive. You can DIY one by chopping the top half of a 16v downpipe and welding it to the MK1 downpipe, not too hard to do. You can also buy 4 branch conversion manifolds

Fuel lines:
The Rocco 16v had the airbox in the stock MK1 location, with the inlet basically a mirror copy of the MK2 unit. Again due to their rarity these are hard to find! Most simply fit the MK2 setup and chop up the bottom half of the old MK1 airbox to make it fit on the driver side chassis leg. 2 other issues arise from this:
1. The washer bottle is usually on the driver side, so it needs to be shifted. Later MK1s had it on the passenger wing with a bracket welded to the inner wing.
2. Fuel lines will be miles away from the airbox, some have managed to carefully bend them back round but you can buy specific braided fuel lines for the conversion from CrazyQuiffs MK1 Golf emporium
