headlight help please
« on: 24 April 2007, 12:44 »
now i had crystal crpsshairs on my car before MOT but they gave out poor light so took them off to get it through.

They're brand new osram silverstar bulbs.

When the normal headlights are on would the side light be on aswell? I haven't connected this due to it means cutting the loom i think  as bit that slides into the standard lights wont go into the new ones.

Also how do you adjust the headlights?

thanks
Tim

to adjust the headlights there are two screws on the front of the headlight (as if you were looking at the front of the car...) they are in position 1 o'clock and 7'oclock i think... correct me if im wrong... (sure there will be a headlamp adjustment topic if you search..)

also the side lights are on whe the main lights are on when standard lights are fitted...

Thanks :)

So that may explain why they were so dim then? Still don't fancy cutting the loom though

could always go to the scrappers, cut an old loom out and modify that, then connect it up, if it dont work then you stil got the original...

but tbh i'd keep original ones... specially if they are brighter.. but upto you

have fun!

the new ones look alot better IMO! The new ones should be brighter with the 'uprated' bulbs!

That's a good idea with the loom:) may try that :)

Thanks again.

Dont need to mess about doing all that, look at the slam pannel on the driver side near the headlight.  Look for the dim dip resistor, bout the size & shape of a packet of polos with a yellow wire coming out of each end, follow the wires to a white 2 pin plug, disconnect it.  Hey presto, no more main lights on dimly with the side lights!

oh I thought the question was how to disconnect the dim dip
to reconnect it plug it back in, or in your case go dowen to a scrappy and find a dimdip resistor without cut/dmaaged wires & refit.  However the dimdip resistor only brings the dipped beam on dimly with with the sidelights, wont help when you put proper dipped beam on!

Have you fitted an uprated headlight loom yet, if not, fit one ;)

it goes between the headlight plugs and the lights, and pulls voltage straight from the battery so you get the max 12v to the lights.  Cost 20-30 to buy, less if you make it yourself!  matey-matey has a guide :)
