Help, alternator fixings on cylinder head broke!
« on: 23 April 2007, 16:48 »

My alternator bracket has fallen off and taken the bolt holes on the cylinder head with it.  Any one know from experience if an aluminium weld can be done in situ to re-attach them?? I have made up a temporary bracket fixing to one of the 10mm bolt holes on the head and am using a bungee cord hangin from the intake manifold to support the majority of the weight. (very Mcgyverish )  Please don't tell me I have to take the head off again.   Has this happened to any one else?

Blown Gearbox :(   Now replaced :)

I doubt that would work very well!
One thing you could do is convert to a MK3/Passat 2.0 8v alternator/water pump/PAS pump/Pulley/bracket setup.  This bolts directly to the block :)
