Gutted catalysator
« on: 21 April 2007, 21:15 »
I recently discovered the my catalysator was completly gutted, would this have any negative effects other than the louder exhaust tone (and the environment of course ) ?
Would the car pass an m.o.t (I live in Norway, so we have EU test every two years) with the catalysator being gutted?
What level of Co2 would the car release without the cat?

I know for certain a huge loss in power is a key problem.. my uncle had it  :undecided:

Do you mean I loose lots of power without the cat ?
Always thought it was the other way around.
I just bought the car two weeks ago so I don't know how powerfull it is suppossed to be.

If the cat has died, and its rattling etc, making lots of noise, you lose power.. it was a ugely noticable loss when my uncles one failed..

Not sure aout de-cat pipes etc, never had to come across them

It's not rattling because all the ceramic content has been removed, so it's just an emty box without any content.

i would leave it as is because you'll be getting more power through without the cat restricting airflow. i don't know how your emissions test would be over there, but i would just leave it until it gets tested.

it's a bit like getting an mot over here, but if you find the "right" garage then there's a chance it won't get tested and will pass anyway
