1.4 L AEX Clutch - Need advice
« on: 18 April 2007, 20:43 »
Hi,  The clutch on my golf is really annoying me now.  It has reached the end of the auto adjuster ratchet and the biting point is up very high. its also very spongy when engaging.  I'm guessing its time for a new one soon. although it doest slip yet, it doesnt take much to get it stinking of burning. it either stalls or burns when reversing in my drive.

Two questions.
1. Is it on its way out ?  is that how a worn clutch behaves?   or are the all the 1.4l clutches crap?
2. is it a big job on the AEX golf engines to replace? I don't want to do it my self it if means taking the engine out, just havn't got the time or tools.

Oh and any idea what sort of time it takes to do in a garage?  just in case i need to get saving
