'90 16v More tales of woe..

I've just re started my Golf after 4 weeks, having renewed the whole heating system and instantly I get a loud oscillating rattle coming from around the power steering & water pump area..
It can't be the new water pump, so I backed off the tension on the power steering pump belt and it quietened down, although it still could be heard as the pump was turning..
Prior to the re-build the pump seemed fine going from lock to lock without too much squealing
Can anyone comment if this is how the buggers go.. Just been told £120 from Dub Centre

have you cheked the pas fluid? maybe u got a leak if it runs down to quickly.

Nope.. Def not leaking and fluid is at the top level mark..?
It's been one thing after another since the matrix burst it's guts all over my feet 4 weeks ago!
Not even going to add up what it's cost me so far as I know I could be driving something nice with a VR6 in
The woes continue..
