DSG or Manual

Right... I've been on this forum long enough for most of you to know that I’m a bit crazy – after all, how else can you explain driving a brand new Golf R32 to within 12 miles of Africa and then selling it after 3 months of ownership, or the number of cars I have got through in the last couple of years?    :laugh: :laugh:

Anyway, I have two dilemmas that I have come about this morning due to having to fork out more than expected on an imminent mortgage and also because I have spotted an investment opportunity abroad that’s too good to miss.  So…

I have to sell my Golf GTI Edition 30  :cry:

However, I have of course checked the availability of Edition 30’s before making this decision and they are still available to order – come on, do any of you really think I’d sell the car if I couldn’t get another one?  :wink: I’d rather go to some seedy third world country and sell some of my organs…  :evil: :evil: :evil:

So I will be putting in an order for another Edition 30 with identical spec. to arrive sometime in October/November – already rang some dealers and they can do that.  Problem is I can’t make up my mind between manual and DSG… I am planning on keeping the Edition 30 and buying another VW with DSG next year anyway but to be honest, I really missed DSG in the Edition 30 although I have a strong suspicion that it was more then just DSG that I missed when I part-ex'd the R32 for the Edition 30 … However, I might miss the manual if I had DSG so I am in a quandary.  My main questions are:

1.   DSG – is it reliable in the long term as I don’t want to fork out massive sums for repairs when the warranty runs out
2.   Tuning – how well do DSG cars take tuning as I have heard and read about restrictions to the power output.
3.   What would you choose and why?

Please help as this is doing my head in, thanks.  :sick:

And NO, the plate will not be sold with the car.

There's one up for Phil!! You gonna buy it Phil? You'd have to eat some serious ED30 humble pie!!

The money i saved getting my GTi as opposed to the ED30 has just enabled me to buy a new house and keep the car.

Hard luck Illyun! Reckon you should get top wack for yours though as it looks mint.

By the way, if i were you i wouldn't order another one. You've never been happy with this one and the mark 6 Golf will be 6 months closer by october time.

Sorry, got carried away there. I think you know my preference :cool:

Ive had 2 DSG diesels and both chipped with wads of torque and never had any issues with the DSG gearbox surging/slipping. If you have looked at my recent thread on how fast the DSG Ed30 is you will know where my heart and head lie :rolleyes:

Awful having to sell your first ED30, but i'm sure you'll make the right decision with the next one :wink:

I'm not sure if I am not happy with it - its just that the R32 was such a beast of a car - plus its a limited edition and ideal to keep.  I can get an R32 next year (which I am planning to do)

Hmmmm... DSG =  :drool: with no jerky gear change - or maybe thats because I don't know how to drive  :evil:

Yes... I have my eye on it. I hope it comes out in 2008 though.  Bit concerned about the engine size as its only a 3 litre engine - I thought it was going to be a 3.6
