no power?
« on: 17 April 2007, 14:17 »
my mk3 golf, seems to have no power untill it hits 2,500 revs, in 1st 2nd and third gear. the others gears arent too bad but dont accelerate like it does in the first three gears  :undecided:

seems to be really holding back on power.... is there anything that i could check that could be the problem ?

its a 1.8

cheers

Quick check of leads/plugs/dizzy/rotor arm would be first bet. See if that makes any difference.

the dizzy/rotor arm has been done, gonna replace plugs anyway as it is due for a service, would sh*t in my air/oil/fuel filter make it do it?

A clogged air filter is not good.
Your problem wouldnt be fuel filter as you would probably not start it!
Oil filter has little effect on performance.

Sorry...as per Len's post...a clogged air filter is not good try cleaning out the the air intake and throttle body..

don't clean the air filter just replace it mate.  As for the throttle body, not sure what it's like on a non GTi but you'll just need some Carb cleaner and a old rag, and just clean all the air intake if it's dead mucky upto and including the throttle body...but really you need to replace the plugs and give it a good service and then see if it makes a difference.. It could be a number of things if that doesn't solve it.

If none of this works then id get a diagnostics check done on it, you could keep replacing parts and not end up solving the problem. I had a similar problem on my VR6 turned out to be my lamda sensor.
