Dealer described it as a comfort issue rather than a safety issue therefore no official recall.  I assume they only therefore deal with it if owners complain??

sounds about right!! they never issued a full recall for the MKIV when people's window clips failed; would only fix it when it happened and even then they tried to deny any knowledge of doing it for free

bastards!  both my windoew clips went on my MkIV, but 18 months apart.

i had my passenger and driver front windows go within 2 months.  I was surprised they did it for free as it was out of warranty but was told if your car is under 6 years old and done less than 90K they do them for free............the biggest problem people have had is finding a stealership who actually knows about this!! I've heard reports that when people have phoned VW UK they've tried to deny it!!

Mine was done last week, it was described as a engine manangement update.  It's got to go back in next week for a new steering rack which is making really bad creaking noises

Yeah, they mentioned it was an engine management update but weren't specific.  Was wondering if anyone knew the detail of the change.  It's waiting to be picked up now so fingers crossed it'll have knocked a second of the 0-60

Righty,

I personally don't have any knowledge on this specific recall.  However, it is quite common for the manufacturers to occasionally issue new, updated ECU maps, for many things, such as engine management, auto gearboxes, climate controll, coolant modules, sat-navs, etc, etc.

What might be extremely helpful, is if all those, such as rcoundon, slane, Blowers, and Phil, along with anyone else who has experienced this, could post the following:

Model year: (determined by the 10th digit of your VIN - this doesn't mean the year of registration!)
Transmission type:
Engine prefix:
Engine number:

so we might get an indication of cut-off dates, if any.

Also, would this be worth x-linking to UKMkVs, or ClubGTI ???

At the risk of sounding silly, what do you mean by engine prefix and number?  I'm new to this

OK, if you look at my signature, and exclude the two-wheeled projectile , you'll see, after each description of engine, is a three letter engine code.  This is the prefix.

So, on my GTI, the prefix is BWA.

The engine number is simply the "serial number", and consists of 6 numbers.

You should find the full engine prefix and serial number on a white bar-coded sticker, affixed to the black plastic timing belt cover, close to the washer fluid resevoir filler.  It will also be on your V5C.

I have had the upgrade performed now.  Haven't driven the car yet but the invoice claims that it's a 24K6 Software update.  I'm off to Google it now.

Looks like it's simply to prevent a fault being reported incorrectly.

Although I did find a bunch of websites in German but even with the Google translator it's difficult to understand what they say.  They do mention performance and turbo pressures but the translation is too poor to gleen any meaning.

Any updates on this?

Any discernable improvements in driveability, performance, economy, etc?
