Golf Recall
« on: 16 April 2007, 12:59 »
Hi guys,

I've just booked my Golf in for a service and they've told me they're also going to perform an engine management system upgrade as part of a recall.
When asked what this entailed I was told patronisingly that it was like installing new software on a computer!
Oh, really?  Never!

Anyway, he wouldn't give me any other details of the upgrade and searches of the internet have proved unfruitful.  Does anyone here know what the recall is for?

Cheers,
Ross

I did a search for Golf recalls on another site and I dont think there is any.

how old is your car and does it have DSG?  could just be an update?

Mine was done last week, it was described as a engine manangement update.  It's got to go back in next week for a new steering rack which is making really bad creaking noises

i know that the golf gti's had a recall last year which was due to the steering wheel grinding when you use to turn it.

Talking of steering rack replacement, is it worth having done, as my new motors been groaning fron day one, and I'd have thought if there was a fix for it, mine would have had it done at the factory as it's an 07 car.

My Gti is 07 but no creaking at all. Funny things go on in that VW factory!

I'm pretty sure that there hasn't been an official VW recall on the streering racks, otherwise this forum would have known about it.

Dealer described it as a comfort issue rather than a safety issue therefore no official recall.  I assume they only therefore deal with it if owners complain??

sounds about right!! they never issued a full recall for the MKIV when people's window clips failed; would only fix it when it happened and even then they tried to deny any knowledge of doing it for free
