Budget 2007 car tax bands
« on: 15 April 2007, 23:00 »
Anyone know how much road tax will be now for a mk1 golf GTI? If it falls into the same band as 4x4's it will make my mind up to sell her as I just won't be able to afford her

Also, if it does, I will be extremely cross, as why should people like me, who have a car that they only drive at weekends, be penalised in the same way as people who drive their car every day?

As far as I know this will only effect those in Tax Band "G", this tax band constitutes any vehicle that produces greater than 225g/km of C02 Emmisions.

The MK1 Golf GTI is tax band "F" which constitues any vehicle that produces 186-225g/km.. so seems doubtful.

the new bands are only coming into effect for new cars made after april 2004, (or something like that)

all cars bought before that date will remain in the band they are in now... however, the cost of each band is going up slightly as well.

so your mk1 will be in the same band it was in last year, but it might cost you more to tax it!

at least... this is wat ive gotten out of the papers and reading sh*t on t'internet, could be completely wrong and we are all screwed
