« on: 03 February 2004, 18:04 »
123mph....That is what I have gotten out of my G 1989 8v.....Is this the norm for a bog standard mk2 with no mods, or should I be looking at more speed....Let us know what you have got and what is the cheapest way of getting more speed....
         Cheers all.. :o

Well remember your speedo isn't gospel so it'll be anything from say 110 to maybe more than 123 as you have to allow 10% for inaccuracey.

120 ish sounds about right though - 8v and 16v had close ratio's so where never gonna win any top speed awards, but serious how much more would u want top end ?

Mine has hit the limiter just off the clock with 120mph clocks - unless yours has been *fettled* with that's your lot! the 8v peaks power-wise @ 5400 rpm so u'll need the wind behind you to get any more

it's GPS. it knows were you are and updates every second therefore working out where you've moved to. it displays your speed on the screen. it's a little laggy cos it only updates every second, but always within 1mph of the speedo.

i've had the vavler up to 121 GPS since its been redone. It still had plenty of travel left on the accelerator, and still had over 1k of revs to go before the dreaded rev limiter kicks in. The only thing that stopped me was that the engine had done less than an 100 miles since its rebuild and i didnt fancy pushing it any further that day.
