Just Got My First MK5 GTi :P

Just got my 1st Golf GTi. I have to say i totally love it!
It is a very solid car!!!
Not many about where i live so alot of people tend to stare 

I have a few general questions:

- How have you guys mounted your ipods/mobile phones?
- Castrol Edge the best oil to use?
- How do i get into the bonnet, where the hell is the level to open it?

Re: ipod, you can buy something called a denison ICE link and put a cable that goes into the glove box.  Current model Golfs can be ordered with an ipod connector in the armrest, but this is hard to retro fit and even harder to do yourself.

Mobile phones: depends on model of phone and if you want a crandle etc.  I have a Parrot bluetooth kit:

Re:bonnet: theres a lever in the drivers footwell, near the door, pull it towards you. then once popped, put your hand under the bonnett just above the VW badge and press the internal lever up and the bonnet will rise on its own.

and yes castrol edge is the right oil, just make sure it says for use with VW 504 00.

Hi Maxamus, welcome to the forum.

- I have iPOD prep in the armrest as a factory fit option, although on my last mkv golf I had a Dension ipod cradle mounted on the dash. Good piece of kit.

- Hmm, not needed any yet, but bought a litre of VW spec oil from the dealer. I am on a fixed time/mileage regime, but the oil is a different spec if you are on the longlife service regime.

- The bonnet release lever is to the right of the accelerator peddle, tucked up between the front door and the front wheel well. Pull it towards you and then go to the outside and feel for the catch under the bonnet (by the VW sign in the middle and lift it and the bonnet should release.

Just to be slightly pedantic, if you are on T&D services (and you really should be, with a GTI ), you may use a lower spec oil approved to 502.00.  However, the much higher spec LongLife 504.00 is also still recommended (and preferred for turbos).
