just joined newbie 1997 16v gti
« on: 15 April 2007, 00:50 »
hi to all on the forums here just joined after purchasing a mk3 16v 2.0 gti
year is 1997 and enginecode is and abf.
i dont really know a lot about cars to be honest but have always wanted a golf gti since i was nipper.
the one i have got is not in the best of nick to be honest and does need some work hence how i found the forums.
i'm gonna be a bit brief as to honest my eyes are killing from reading all the posts and projects on here
here's a pic of my car taken earlier today

so far all ihave done is replace the ecu relay to sort out an idle problem which has helped massively but still a little off.
next week when the kids go back i'll set about doing a full service on it so i need some help with the bits and where best to get them in south wales.
any suggestions would be great
i''l add a few pics below of some of the car with questions or statements.
1. this is a pick of the rear end with a slight bump on the quarter where the badge is. anyone have any ideas on where to get this sorted and a rough figure on cost?

2. this is a pic of the deepest scratches on the car so was wondering if anyone thought they could be removed by me?
if they can then then there is hope for the rest of the paint work.

3. also need the timing belt changed. any good garages for good prices in the s.wales area?

i'll leave it at that for tonight.

best wishes

rob

Welcome.

best to get some quotes as unless you are confident in doing body/paint stuff its best to let experts do it.

thanks for the welcome everyone

well took a ride round earlier and 2 prices for the rear quarter one for 3-400 quid and the other was 2-250.

could have pushed me over with your little finger on the first quote
thought i'd ask how much for a full job and 1500 was the price!.

must say his work did look the dogs as he had a civic type r that he had just done.

thing is mate has a bmw cab with trick paint (changes colour 6 ways in the sun) and for a door dent repair and full side spray which i must say was really good i was a bit astounded with the 2 prices.

i will have to nag a few people me thinks to talk to mates of mates nicely

still trying to get the service done, but having someone look at the engine mon/tues to give me a better picture on the cam situation as it sounds like a train at the mo so i think i'll wait and see.

started doing the kiwi shoe polish thing and to be honest was gobsmacked , brilliant results so far.

also won an induction kit of ebay but in my haste bought the mk3 vr6 one.

will post some more as it happens
