Knackered???

Got an 8v Gti and was driving last night when oil light came on pulled over and checked oil looked ok then got realy loud tapping noise ( 5hit ) so I went home and luckly I had new oil filter and oil so I changed it over and all seemed ok tapping went away then 5 mins later started again. Reckon it could be the oil pump so going to order 1 today and fit tomorrow. Only had the car a week and so haven’t got a manual is the oil pump easy to change?
Is my engine fooked ? when I took oil cap off it was spluttering and nearly stalled is this the oil pump or bad compression?

A compession check would be advisable! But my guess would be that yes its Knackered!!!

  Is it worth changing the oil pump? The tappnig when away fro while after oil change so was hoping was oil pump?

Do the compression test first. Not worth changing anything until you do that.
If thats o.k. then I would drop the sump and see if theres any damage.
I mean from the sound you are getting it could be bottom end.

New engine if thats gone then .. compression test think i got the jobbie thing at home give it ago whta should it be at before the enigne is classed as scrap?

anybody got any ideas about second hand engines with cheap install?
