Just ordered an edition 30
« on: 13 April 2007, 00:53 »
Hi all, first time poster here, don't b*ll**k me
Anyway, just placed an order for a Candy White ED30 today. However i'd like to transfer my private plate from my previous car to the ED30. Managed to get the salesman to pay for the plate retention @ £105. Does anyone know whether i should apply for retention or pay £80 for the number transfer. Which option is easier/faster? Thanks

The £105 fee is for retention and transfer. It will be transfered off your old car and will be held on retention until you want it placed on your other car. You will get a retention certificate from DVLA. (keep your 07 plate until Sept.)
The £85 fee is just for the transfer of the "cherished" plate direct to your new car.
It took 3 weeks to get my reg changed on my old car and then another 2 weeks to get the retention certificate through! And I even took the paperwork to the local DVLA office.
Hope this helps.
Bye Bye Edition 30

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Why do you suggest i keep my 07 plate till september? So all in all, it took you five weeks before you could have your new plates made up for your GTI right?
How much does it take to have plates made up, i'm totally skint from getting the GTI so have to budget everything, even if it is £1.99
Cheers.

Hi Kev, welcome to the forum m8.

Cost me £20 to put the 54 standard plate back on my old car and if you are thinking about keeping the standard 07 plate on your car before transferring to a private plate later, that would be another £20.  :nerd:

Remember to take down your certificate of retention when you go to get the plates done as some will not let you have plates without it.

I think Tagnut is referring to the fact that your standard plates will be the most recent 07 plates and displays that the car is new (until September of course).

I sent off to get my retention certificate in plenty of time before my new car arrived so that it could be put on straight away. All told it took 6 weeks for mine to get fully sorted.

Good luck with the new car

Thanks again for the reply. Will go to my local dvla post office to get the forms. Just can't wait till i get the car. End of June, its killing me lol. Will be sad to see my current car go, but fuel bills are killing me, so it has to go.
Incidentally i've specced my car with the following options (if anyone cares really lol):
Candy White
Cruise Control
Highline
Ipod centre armrest.
I heard the cruise control can be used to change from standard and remapped power after a visit to a remapping company, is this true? I think it was Oettinger that says cruise control is used to switch between the maps, anyone able to confirm? Thanks

Kev

Yes, you're absolutely right.

Oettinger use recalibration of the engine management - via Directport - utilising the cruise control stalk

Also see here       http://www.goapr.co.uk/remaps.html

The APR site goes into a bit more detail and uses the same functionality as Oettinger and also can add different maps to suit

Directport certainly seems nice. Will be doing that in the near future thats for certain.
HAve another question. As mentioned in my previous posts, i have cruise control selected as a factory fit option for £270. I was browsing through the option lists when i stumbled upon cruise control can be fitted as an accessory pack for £150. Part number is : 1K0 054 690. What is the difference, does anybody know? Thanks

absolutely no difference in the parts or functions of the dealer fit cruise control

Thats how I got mine fitted - just a quirk of the ordering system, I guess
