Good news! Well maybe!
« on: 03 February 2004, 08:45 »
Hi everyone, I've not been on here that much as I only bought my first Mk3 Gti in December. I had an Astra Coupe Turbo before hand (split with ex had to sell it to buy a new house!) and wasn't expecting much from the Golf apart from good solid reliability. When I eventually found the right one I was very impressed with it, not the fastest car on earth but was very pleased with the way it drove, the performance and the build quality until I found some oil/diesel/mud on the road and it ended up written off in a ditch!

Anyway my insurance company were fantastic (elephant.co.uk) and paid me full value for the car which allowed me to go out and start looking again, after a hunt around for a while I finally found myself a gorgeous 3 door 16v in pristine condition, totally standard and had been lovingly cared for by both previous owners. I'm like a cheshire cat at the moment constantly grinning! It is a fantastic car and those extra 8 valves certainly give it a decent turn of speed.

Anyway now that I've bored you all to death, I thought I'd just say hi!

Thanks

Thanks mate, just a quick question for you, I notice you have a 95 as well and you've got smoked fogs, is that front fog lights? Mine has front fog lights with bulbs in but no switch to turn them on for some reason, any ideas?

The fog light switch should be on the headlight switch, turn the headlights on then pull the switch out for fogs.
Hope that helps  :)
Oh yes and welcome  :D

Thanks, that's where it was on my 8v, but not on this one, there is only one light on the dash and one position, which brings on the rear fog, no front fog. It's weird, the previous owner pointed out to me that there were fog lights but no switch!

Could it be a case of the switch is from a different model, possibly installed incorrectly in the factory?

more likely that someone else has put the wrong switch in.

Think I'll take a trip up to the scrappie where my 8v is at the weekend as it was a P reg so has the smoked indicators which my 16v lacks, I can pinch the headlight switch out of it and one of the wheels has some kurbing on the 16v but the 8v had a couple that were mark free. Not sure what else to pinch off it, sure I can fill my pockets with spares!

Don't suppose I can take the air con system out and install it in the 16v!!

the front smoked fogs lights are a mod that i plan to do in the future matey, and the black mk4 in the background in my sig is kniteriders mk4!!!!

Mine is the green 95 in the foreground!

Hi everyone, i'm also new on this site as i only got my 8v at Christmas. Unfortunately having problems with it at the moment but i'm sure i'll sort them out soon.
I agree with you iball about the 8v being an all round nice car to drive - is the 16v a really serious step up?
