Is the fuel pump running when the engine is cranked? do you have a good spark?.
If the cold start injector is working and you have fuel and spark, it should fire. If it fires but won't keep running, check the inlet side of the engine for air leaks(not the first time I have tried to start a engine with the servo pipe off

).
You won't get a lot out of the injectors if they are out of the manifold and you are cranking, as the flap wont be lifted up by engine vacuum. The engine is drawing air thru the open injector ports, not the throttle body, so the metering flap won't lift and let fuel to the injectors.
Check carefully the pipe from the fuel metering unit to the throttle body, can be a biach to get on all the way around at the metering unit end
