16v kjet wont start
« on: 03 February 2004, 08:33 »
have just replaced a bown 16v engine and cant get the new one to start

have fitted new plugs and changed air/fuel meter thing
cold start valve is injecting fuel but cant seem to get a lot out of main injectors when cranking
have put a gallon of fresh fuel in
if i lift the float in the airbox manually with injectors out i get a nice spray of fuel but doent seem to be enough during normal cranking to get it to spark

Is the fuel pump running when the engine is cranked? do you have a good spark?.
If the cold start injector is working and you have fuel and spark, it should fire. If it fires but won't keep running, check the inlet side of the engine for air leaks(not the first time I have tried to start a engine with the servo pipe off ::)).
You won't get a lot out of the injectors if they are out of the manifold and you are cranking, as the flap wont be lifted up by engine vacuum. The engine is drawing air thru the open injector ports, not the throttle body, so the metering flap won't lift and let fuel to the injectors.
Check carefully the pipe from the fuel metering unit to the throttle body, can be a biach to get on all the way around at the metering unit end >:(.
Steve.

fuel pump is running while cranking, fantastic spark, problem is definatly with fuel, cold start injector is working well, just cant seem to get fuel in from main injectors, will check seals on injectors tonight in case air is getting in there
