orig VW keys - SPARE?

Right guys.. need info, i have a key for my 85 cab (obv) but it's not an orig VW one, i'm wanting to buy a blank to get cut as i dont have a spare, what should the letters be on the key? is it an AH?

i cant tell by looking at my key, as it's not orig and has nothing on it.

My old mk1 had AH keys and so did my Jetta 89-F. There are other types but could be an option to check ebay, as there is/was a guy on there who sells them from Hong Kong or somewhere. He usually has a picture that you could compare your key too.

Go to VW, get a spare from them and the take it to a key cutters with your other key and job done, that's all I did.

Depends how old the car is, older cars have HV and later have AH.  You can tell the difference by looking at the key, the HV keys have a ridge down the middle where the AH don't:

i've ordered a VW key, direct from VW it's gunna be here on tuesday, and it costs £5.70 all in.

Quite chuffed really, man at the key cutting place said it will be £5 to cut the key, and called me a snob for providing the key, as he could cut and provide a crap looking key for £5!

might see if somewhere else will cut one for ess, but atleast i'm sorted now !!
