Ride comfort,...or lack of !!
« on: 10 April 2007, 08:32 »
Had my 07 GTI for a week and love it , however I sold the idea to my wife that it would be better spending more money on a VW than say a civic as the ride comfort and quality would be better, the qaulity is in no doubt, however the ride comfort is crap!
I have 18" monza`s all about 30 psi, on dunlop sport Maxx tyres ( standard), the car is really unsettling on the motorways actually jiggling you around in the seat over minor undulations. I thought the ride in my 53 civic type R was so bad anything would be better, however.....
not what I was expecting (or my wife ) from a VW, I know its a GTI ect , ect but all reviews rated ride quality as good for a hot hatch.

any suggestions?

Just a thought, but have you made sure the transport blocks have been removed ? only mine were left in on my GTi.

I agree, from coming from a lotus exige and before that an RS Focus i find the ride to be very good and not harsh at all! in fact i wish it was harder and a little lower!

They are rubber spacers that VW fit between the coils of the road springs, see here

I found my 07 quiet a hard ride when I first got it, but then I had been driving a mk4 1.6 for 4 years.

On particular parts of the M25 I find it really hard.

I only have 17" wheels and I'm told 18" is a bit harder.   :nerd:

Well i've made my mind up - H&R -25mm springs or eibach -15mm fitted and correct alignment adjustment seems to be the solution! Unfortunately the latter i think i'll have to pay full biffta prices at the main dealer as there is no trustworthy specialists up where i live. Prob. keep the warranty secure though!
