Creaking plastic on dash
« on: 07 April 2007, 08:16 »
The central 'dish' in the dash of my GT TDI creaks like nobody's business (when you go over any bump bigger than a pea!!!!).

I think, when you have climate control, instead of the dish you have the air-con quick window clearer vent so not sure if it effects these too?

Other than that my car is silent - is this a warranty issue do you think?

cheers

I have the climate control and mine did the same,  However, i took mine apart and put in some cheap cloth strips on top of the holes where the vent clicks in to the dash, when I push the vent thru the clips pushed through the cloth and act as barrier between plastic against plastic.
No more creaks !!

Mine use to do the same what i did was remove it and use some fir backed tape between the two bits of plastic so they did not move and rub each other. Seemed to cure it.

Had the same on my07 GTI..Was driving me mad

However, I have just fixed it with blue tack  Little rolls down the sides where the diffuser vent sits in, pushed back in & it is a nice snug fit now, rather than before.

Just tried on some very very bumpy roads at a fair turn of pace & not a squeak or rattle in sight  Happy now!

if anyone else is hearingahigh pitch squeek coming from somewhere in the car from the seats. then have a close look at the rear bench seat as ive finally found a very annoying squeek whilst going over bumps, got the missus to drive whilst i found it. hard to pin point where it comes from untill u actually sit on it whilst the cars moving!!!!

cool, thanks everyone for that - my mates laugh at me for getting annoyed by the creak, but it really does make me VERY angry.

Would anyone mind giving me tips on how to remove the dish thing without a) breaking it and b) leaving screw-driver indents everywhere :-) .......i am not technical in any way shape or form when it comes to manual stuff!!

thanks again

my passenger seat creaks and rattles, a metal on metal noise, and I find that sometimes the seat doesnt lock back in properly after moving it back and forth.  very annoying!
