possible gearbox leak
« on: 04 April 2007, 15:11 »
I noticed today i had a lot of fluid on my drive which i can only presume is hydraulic fluid. On closer inspection there is a hole on the top of the gearbox surrounded by a rubber ring is this normal or should it be capped off.

How do i check too see what level of fluid is in the gearbox.

I have also noticed recently it is difficult to get into 5th gear and the clutch makes a whirling sound when you take your foot off the pedal.

have been told it could be a seal has anyone got any suggestions

i have had a look under the car and can see drips comming from a joint (1) also there is a drip towards the end of the box nearest the wheel (2)

will i need to take the box off or is there a simple fix for this problem

they can be a nightmare to do, i had to do mine the other week and in the end it turned out my gearbox was knackered! if there is any play in the drive shaft flanges its not looking good!

Brought my self the new seals ( was feeling pretty confident at this point having decided too do them both! ).

Have spent the whole day under the car which has turned out to be a nightmare of a job. have got to the point now where i have put in the new seal after stuggling for about an hour to locate it ( the propper tools would of helped though my huge socket eventually managed too do the job. The ony trouble now that ive got is refitting the flange and getting the circlip back on. Due to the huge spring behind the flange its going to be a buggar. Im some how going to have too make myself a tool to push the flange in whilst i refit the circlip.

ill keep u all posted on my progress
