ED30 Silver Door Trim
« on: 03 April 2007, 21:19 »
OK I know this is not a serious fault but - having now done 1000 miles in my Black 3 Door ED30, and having washed it weekly for the last 5 weeks, one of the sliver door-sill trims has crumpled (the trim with the ED30 stamp in red on it).  denied.

Ordered a replacement - just in today - £20 och !!!!

Just mentioned here if anyone else gets this problem.
It's the little things that matter (so my wife tells me - am I allowed to write that)

What a car - really sorted, very impressed, not a single fault to be found - other than that trim

Hi

If you are talking about the "Edition 30" sticker on the door sill then I have seen this problem on a showroom car. It is only a sticker so if not stuck down correctly or manages to get water under it, it will just lift! Not the best!

Humm, not happy with that, so what happens when they peel off, covered by warranty???

Also Nath, as a complete biff at this sort of thing, is it easy to 'clay' and polish your car, was going to buy one of those FLASH car cleaner things that is suppose to stop rain spots but as the owner of an old Black pearl Mk4 and soon to be owner of a ED30 in the same colour I want it to look the dogs, any advice??

Hi paul

I have never used one of the flash car was things, as I have never found the need to be honest. I have never owed a black car, but my mate has a black M3 and he tells me that it is hard work. The best was to avoid water spots is just get pilling on the water, try never to let any area get dry and wash in the shade!

I use Meguiars Clay bar and soloution. It is very easy to do, although does take a while! It is very very good because it takes all service film, road grim, tar spots etc of the car before you wax/seal the paintwork, which is very important to get you a great finish.

I didn't waste my money on Autoglym as it is a very average product, so this is the steps I took on my new car when I got it. it is different when you have a used car as polishing would more than likely be required, this should not be needed on a brand new car!

Wash it thoroughly with with Meguairs NXT using a was mit! start at the top and work your way down, basic stuff i know, but make sure the last areas us wash are the most dirty(normally bottom of doors, side sills and rear of car) I wash single panels at a time and rise down.
Dry down fully using a dry town( much better than a chammy)
Clay bar the hole car to remove all gime and any service film(not much on a new car)
Seal the paint work using Meguairs Synthtic Sealant
Wax the car using P21S Carnauba Paste Wax-This is a high quality and is the best I have used so far on any of my cars! I have used Zymol products that cost £70 a tub and they are not as good as this in my opinion!

I then tend to wax my car once a month after this using the P21S

I use wax on my wheels that is also really good, but the name escapes me now, this helps brake dust sticking etc!

Hope this helps, this is the process I use and always get great results, it is very time consuming, but I think it is worth it! I hope this helps. I get quite a bit of the stuff from hear
www.cleanandshiny.co.uk

Now before any one starts, i don't work for Meguiars and I do have a life

P.S if my spelling is bad in some area's I am sorry, I am at work and am dyslexic.

Thanks Nathan, the 'boss' says I can spend some of our hard earned on some quality cleaning gear, I was going to get a meguirs lambs wool mit and water magnet towel, what else would you recommend??

I use them two products and they are great, well worth getting. You don't have to go as far as I do, But i am just sad :embarassed:! With it being new you probs don't need to clay bar it or seal it, so I would just recomend getting a good quality wax and a couple of microfiber cloths(any make they are all fairly simler. They are much better than a standard towel as they don't leave any deposits) to buff it off with.

P21s as i say is great but If you only want to spend a £14 or so get Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax, it is decent and will give you a nice finish. Just always remember to aply wax in stright lines to prevent swil marks (esspecially as you car is black).

Hope this helps, most Meguairs stuff is availible in Halfords, this will save you on p&p.

Thanks

Nathan
