mint body work grubby engine
« on: 03 April 2007, 09:22 »
Has anyone got any tips on what to use when cleaning the engine bay. I am also looking at replacing the radiator hoses as these are in a sorry state (any ideas where to get some). Can i jet wash the engine and if so do i need to take any special precausions when doing this.

You'll need to degrease the engine bay first - but almost every single degreaser i've found & brought from either Halfords or similiar stores are sh!t.. I don't know what he use's but a chap I know runs a car valeting service and has some stuff that works wonders! - I'll try find out what it is..

As for jet washing it, just cover up your electrics (use cling film or the like).

If you could let me know when you find out as the engine bay really lets the car down at the moment

I used, amusingly, a product called 'Jizer' to degrease my engine bay, along with a steamer and some bog brushes - worked pretty well!

steam cleaner does the job, even if you can find a jet wash that has a hot wash option will do it good. once you've drivent here the heat of the engine will make it easier to remove anyway.

I use fairy liquid and a stiff brush followed by my karcher pressure washer!! Works well as it is designed to remove oils and greases from chip pans.
