steaming exhaust
« on: 01 April 2007, 23:49 »
I've just got a new jetex exhaust on my MK3 and since I have noticed that it seems to steam a lot - even when the car has been running for quite a while. Also, I took off the airbox the other day and one of the breather pipes was full of yellow gunk. Does this sound like the gasket or is it normal?

well steam means water. But it could be water condensing inside the exhaust as it's all shiny inside. Give it a while to 'carbon up' a bit and see if it still does it. Yellow gunk is not good though.....

Any other symptoms visible like mayo in the header tank?

I've put a Jetex system on my Mk3 recently and it seems to steam a lot too. One thing I did notice was that the original backbox had a small hole drilled in it at the bottom at the front end, apparently to let any build up of condensation (and therefore water!) drip out. Jetex doesn't have this hole so I guess its all got to steam out! Managed to spray the hose up there when I was cleaning it the other day and it steamed for ages after!
