Strange Stalling

Took my car out on my lunch break today, (only a mile down the road) and it just would not idle.  was constantly stalling at every junction, unless I held it at around 2k revs.

When I started it to come back to work it was fine, idled perfectly !

This has not happened before.  any ideas?

It was annoyingly fine all the way home  :angry:   Is it gonna be one of those things that happens once and then never again ?!   Any ideas why it would happen like that and then be fine?

Check all the vacuum pipes as I think a leak could cause this sort of problem, it did on my 16V !

Had a brief look under bonnet, but it was brief had a look around the inlet etc for obvious leaks but saw nothing.

Not had much experience with these engines before, which are vacuum pipes, are any particularly common for breaking etc?

Vac leaks are normally a continuous problem, could be isv trouble, check your all engine sensors/isv for electrical terminal corrosion....

I'm gonna have a look round today, just clean up some connections etc have a good clean around...  It stalled again once since above happened, but only once on start up and was then ok.

It does seem to miss slightly sometimes on start up for a few seconds, it done it before and after last service, where leads were all replaced, and it done it before and after cambelt and tensioner was replaced, and timing all checked.

Happened again over weekend, and wouldn't sort itself out this time, so I took the opportunity to had a good look araound, I cleaned some various connections and then found that the throttle assembly was fairly dirty and wasn't moving freely enough, causing it to not always click the little button on idle..  I'm assuming this was the problem, so I cleaned it all up, and is now moving back into position correctly.

Seems to have sorted the problem, or at least it hasn't happened again!
