Conti's all the way for me on the GTi fella!

Mich are darn good but IMHO on the golf with 18's, they would be too hard but they are the only tires i'd have on my boxster but that rides on 17's.  which is what i thought when they were on our A3 with 18's.  Pirelli's are spot on but i think they are softer than the Conti's and i've only ever had short life with them.  Toyo's, i've never tried. 

for fitting - i've used protyre for the last 4 years.  these guys have the best prices and take proper care of your motor........

Tyres ordered - to be fitted on Saturday.

Guy on the phone mentioned checking the alignment when they fitted the tyres and said if there was any sort of problem they would sort it for £27.  I'm always sceptical about things like that, especially as the current tyres seem to have worn evenly.  Well, I say that, but there's both fronts have worn a bit more on the inner-most surface of the tread (c.f the outer-most surface of the tread).

Persoanlly i have never come across a tyre fitter who checks the tracking and says it is fine. They always tweak it a bit to get their money.

I wouldn't let anyone but VW check it for me, even if it does cost more.

Now shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

First impression is that they are rather good.  No wheelspin so far, but will reserve judgement 'till we get some of the wet-stuff.

Ahh, OK

Will you be swapping them to the rears after you have scrubbed them in?  Then you can wear out the remaining pair of rice rubber, and at least you'll have a stable rear end in the mean time!
