just bought a n reg   gti  8v

drove back home fine, trip of about 40 miles,
was getting about 39 to the gallon all ok.

parked it up now the bloody thing wont start.

it turns over but wont kick.
 there is spark and fuel..

battery is good and full tank of petrol.


im at a total loss.

any ideas.

ive had the car 2 days and am begining to think it was a bad move

If you drove it, did you start it or the other owner?

I'd start by replacing the ECU temp sender, then the ECU & fuel pump relays :)
Also the coils on MK3s are prone to failure, and give a weak spark.

spark looks pretty good to be honest, so i dont think its the coil.

i have had someone say temp sensor.
gonna have to have a day on it sat.
 realy need my car...

i started it, first turn of the key but needed my foot on the gas.

i know when i first took the car out on the first test drive it was a b!tch to get going.

it had been sat for a couple of weeks then moved off on on his drive way every day with a for sale notice in. thought it must have been choked up.

drove home great though lovely and smooth. no splutter nothing.

symptoms do point towards the ECU temp sensor, so I'd do that 1st :)

Exact same thing happened to me when I bought mine, turned out to be the temp sender. £28 later, all sorted!  :smiley:

a full day of head scratching and fustration later,  bugger it

its off to the garage.
ive nearly put my foot in the door so many times today its untrue.

i cant realy afford it but its no good to me like this and i cant sell it..
viscious circle.

Just the sender was replaced, old one screws out, new one screws in, bob's your uncle.........!

shouldnt have but i think it was just the icing on a bad day.
