Edition 30 dealer allocation question
« on: 28 March 2007, 10:55 »
Any dealers here or anybody that knows what the deal is with dealer allocation for the edition 30.  I am about to place an order for one however my local dealer is saying that i wouldnt expect delivery untill october and they dont know when they will be able to order it as they cant see a slot on the ordering system and they can only see 2 months down the line. Im not worried about the wait but i wanted them to confirm that if i ordered on i would definetly get one and they said yes as they had an allocation of 4, they had already had sold 3 and had a showroom model but that the showroom one didnt count towards there allocation. So does any of this sound true or are they just trying to string me along to get a deposit out of me. As i said i dont mind the wait but the one thing i dont want is several months down the line them to say sorry we cant get you one, when i then have no chance of getting one anywhere.

I'd ring around and ask for the spec you want. That's what I did, and it makes the daler work harder. It's probably the best way to get discount too. I guess it also depends upon what spec you want too. I compromised on the highline computer so I could get the same spec car 2 months sooner. Can't say I miss what I haven't had, just depends on what you want.

Might help if you said where you are based. Pretty sure my dealer in West Sussex still has one but would have to check.

im based in cambridgeshire and im hoping to order 3dr DSG in candy white with the armrest, xenons and highline, ill give a ring around some of the other dealers this afternoon to see what they can do. Its not the wait that bothers me its the concern they might not be able to supply it.

Hi Mepal, welcome to the sit.

I think what your dealer says is mostly true about the allocation.  However, it's unusual that although they have been allocated 4 and sold 3 that they don't know when they can order the 4th one.  Usually, if they have 4 allocated, then they can put orders in for those 4 and get del dates for them.  My dealer was allocated 7, 6 being pre orders.  I got the 7th one to my exact spec when I ordered mine in the middle of Jan.  I also asked a few weeks ago, as a matter of interest, whether they would be allocated anymore, but the dealer wasn't sure.  IMO the dealer you went to has already sold its allocation and is waiting to see if it can get anymore.  That certainly seems to be the case with other dealers I've spoken to.  You are right to be concerned, as it seems to me they don't know if they will definately get any more Ed30s.

I think you should look around, as others have said.  There is bound to be a dealer who has not yet reached his allocation, or more likely has had a canx order that you could take.  Hope this helps, good luck.

My dealer was allowed 10 - I got the 10th one.  I tried calling round another few dealers near me (Aberdeen) to see if anyone could get me one to my spec quicker.  I found that all the dealers within 200 miles were the same wait time - but some still had a few left in their allocation.

If you go onto VW's site and look for dealers near your postcode you can probably find one that can supply you the car within 12-14 weeks.
