Golf GTi stalling
« on: 28 March 2007, 10:50 »
Hi all

I have a Golf GTi 2.0 8v 95' (ADY). Recently it has been stalling without any prior notice. After starting the engine from cold runs well for 20ish mins, then cuts out. On re-starting its 50/50 as whether you can start it again from hot or wait up to an hour to do so.

After much advice from other forums, i've renewed two earth points that were badly corroded, replaced relay 30 and checked every connection where possible.

It is still doing it. I thought about replacing the fuel pump relay this is the last port of call before i take it to the garage.

Before the end of last year the car had begun to idle erratically as though it was going to stall but never did i'm pretty sure this was a warning sign. I've read many threads of similar incidents.

Has anybody got any more suggestions as they would be greatly received, sorry for the essay!!

Yea change the fuel pump relay.
If it still does it after that then take it to get a VAGCOM check on the fault codes.

Also sounds like it could be the ecu temp sender, as it starts cold but cuts out when warm,...

i had the exact same problem mate. revz go up and down automatically and seemz lyk the car guna stall but then suddenly the revs jump bak up. i  just bought a new engine for £120, hired a engine crane and got my dad to fit it in. no point spendin money on your engine mate. even if u fix it now it will re-occur. u can pick up cheap engines from ebay. get anutha 8v and it be a easy swap job. but the truble with that is therz neva a guarantee from ebay enginez. but myn wernt to bad apart from the oil light truble. golfz mk3 have to many problems. im guna sell myn soon. prbz guna get a mk4 or a mk3 vr6.

Mine needed a new cam sensor, and this doesnt always show as a code. Never done it since!
